Membership Benefits
Why Choose Congregation B'nai Jacob?
Congregation B'nai Jacob is a vibrant Conservative synagogue committed to the full expression of Jewish life for all its members and families. Located in Woodbridge, Connecticut, just five miles from Yale University, our members come from all over the Greater New Haven Community.
If you are looking to enrich your spiritual life, connect with others on a similar journey, and explore your Judaism more deeply, Congregation B'nai Jacob is the perfect place for you. Our synagogue offers a comprehensive range of benefits to our members, including:
-
Twice-Daily Minyanim: B’nai Jacob is proud of its longstanding daily minyan. Our community gathers to pray together and to ensure that mourners can say Kaddish daily. For specific service times, please refer to our schedule.
- Religious School: We provide a two-day-a-week program for grades 3-7 and a one-day-a-week program for preschool through grade 2.
- Engaging Programs: Participate in Shabbat and holiday programs designed for children and young families (CBJ KIDS).
- Superb Adult Education: Attend classes, lectures, and guest speaker events tailored for adult learning.
- Conversion Classes: Join classes for those interested in conversion.
- Our Clergy: Our rabbi, Rona Shapiro, was chosen by The Forward as one of America’s most inspiring rabbis. Congregants appreciate her thought-provoking sermons, her brilliant teaching, and her warm pastoral presence. Our cantor, Kochava Munro, brings her beautiful voice and kind demeanor to our shul. She loves to help us sing and is eager to teach synagogue skills to anyone who wants to learn. She also runs our award-winning religious school.
- Social Action Projects: Participate in meaningful initiatives such as volunteering at a homeless shelter, feeding the hungry, or helping care for our Mitzvah Garden.
- Musical Theater: Perform in a BJ Players Musical Theater production.
- Outreach Programs: Participate in efforts to create an inclusive congregation and support one another.
-
Leadership Opportunities: Serve on a synagogue committee and/or the Board of Directors.
-
Funeral Services and Cemetery Plots: Have funeral services at the synagogue and the option to purchase a plot in our cemetery.
