Monday, April 1, 2024 • 22 Adar II 5784
7:30 PM - 9:00 PMMonday Nights April 1, 8, 15; May 6, 13, 20; June 3, 10 In his new book, “Judaism is About Love,” Rabbi Shai Held — one of the most important Jewish thinkers in America today — recovers the heart of the Jewish tradition, offering the radical and moving argument that love belongs as much to Judaism as it does to Christianity. He shows that love is foundational and constitutive of true Jewish faith, animating the singular Jewish perspective on injustice and protest, grace, family life, responsibilities to our neighbors and even our enemies, and chosenness. We will read selected passages from Held’s new and lengthy book and discuss them. Everyone is welcome. No experience necessary. Free for members; non-members $100.

Dr. Jeffrey Hoos, Past President of the Jewish Federation, started his fundraising career selling raffle tickets with Barry Vine forty years ago. Joey Russell and Barry Vine worked together on the Ambulance Campaign, "The Penny Parade," in the 1980s. Together, they raised money with stamina and heart, sparking our New Haven community of Jewish organizations, schools, and synagogues to send over twenty ambulances to Israel. Reuven Russell, Stern Professor of Theater, is a well-known, talented actor and comedian, like his father. He continues the family's good work of community fundraising for this MDA Ambulance drive. Inspired by the legacy of Joey Russell z”l and the event's match donation by Barry Vine, he is supporting our efforts to send a replacement Life Support Ambulance to our brothers and sisters in Israel. -
