Shabbat at the Judaica Shop
Three traditions define the beginning of Shabbat. The lighting and blessing over the candles, the blessing over the wine, and the blessing over challah are three simple acts that welcome in Judaism’s holiest day of the week. In the traditional candlelighting, one candle is lit to ‘remember’ (zachor) the Sabbath and the other as a reminder to ‘observe’ (shamor) the Sabbath. [Shamor and zachor are the first words of the commandments in the two Ten Commandments passages in the Torah concerning Shabbat (Exodus 20:8; Deuteronomy 5:12).]
The Judaica Shop has candlesticks, candles and matchboxes in different styles to beautify the Shabbat or Yom Tov candle lighting ritual.
