About our school B'nai Jacob Religious School serves families from all over the Greater New Haven community: Woodbridge, Bethany, Orange, West Haven, East Haven,
Branford, Shelton, Derby, Ansonia and New Haven. We would like to
welcome you and your child!
Children attend Religious School on Sunday morning and Wednesday afternoon. Kindergarten through 2nd grades attend Sunday only; 3rd-7th grades attend both days.
We also offer ten special
Shabbat school days during the school year for children in grades 3-6.
Shabbat Kollel is an engagin, fun, child-friendly service. Our new Kollel program requires children to attend a minimum number of special Shabbat morning child-friendly services at the synagogue. Kollel is engaging and fun.
What is Kollel? Kollel, which in Hebrew means "inclusion," gives students the hands-on experience of participating in Shabbat services as leaders and honorees. It gives them an opportunity to practice what they learn during the week and participate in an adult-like service in a child-firendly, comfortable environment. The service is led by a young, dynamic and knowledgeable teacher. Parents are welcome to stay with their child or join the congregation for the main Shabbat service.
Kollel includes:
Reading prayers from the Siddur
Chanting from the Torah
Participation in various honors of the service (such as opening the ark, lifting the Torah, Aliyot)
Discussion on Parashat Ha’Shavuah (The Torah portion of the week)
Current Events in the Jewish world
A sweet treat (to associate with the sweetness of Shabbat)
